Frequently asked questions.

What is a midwife?

Midwives in the United States provide health care services to women of all ages. Midwife means “with woman.” Midwives partner with women to help make important health decisions. Midwives work with other members of a woman’s health care team when needed, but a midwife may also be your primary care provider. In addition to delivering babies, midwives also provide general health services, annual checkups, contraception (birth control), menopausal care, and treatment for common infections and health problems. At The Village Midwife, we focus solely on women’s wellness and gynecology.

If I see a midwife yearly for my annual exam do i also need to see a doctor?

No, midwives are trained to provide women’s primary care and gynecological care. Annual gynecological exams are within the scope and practice of midwifery. Should a complication arise that, your midwife may consult with a physician colleague.

Is midwifery care covered by my insurance?

Most insurance plans cover midwifery care. At The Village Midwife, we work with your out of network benefit coverage by providing you an invoice you can use to submit a claim for reimbursement.
